Seminar on the Legal Perspective of the Ottoman Role in Malaysia

The legal system of the Ottoman Empire, which is also partially derived from the Islamic Law surely had an important impact on the legal systems applied in rest of the Muslim World. The first example of the modern codification of the Islamic Law was no doubt Mecelle-i Ahkâm-ı Adliye, which was prepared by a commission headed by Ahmet Cevdet Pasha between 1868-1876 in the Ottoman Empire and it is a well known fact that Mecelle has still its impact on the contemporary legal systems of the countries, which were former territories of the Ottoman Empire or the other Muslim countries such as Malaysia.

The Center for Ottoman-Malay World Studies (OSMAD) at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU), jointly with the ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Laws (AIKOL) at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) would like to shed light upon the impact of the Ottoman legal system the contemporary Malaysian legal system through a seminar entitled The Seminar on The Legal Perspective of The Ottoman Role in The Colonial Resistance, Gender Equity And Financial Sustainability in Malaysia. Three basic issues will be brought forward by the following academics from AIKOL- IIUM.
